Mechanicsburg Fire Victim Relief

November 1, 2009

While donations have continued to come it for the victims of the Market Street fire, the families have informed us that they have received all that they need.  They offer their gratitude to everyone who has helped in any way.

At this time plans are underway to demolish the fire damaged houses and rebuild.

Again, we thank each of you who has helped in this effort!

We are proud to report an overwhelming response by the community in coming together to meet the needs of the victims of the Market Street fire.  Thanks to generous donations by local individuals and businesses the families have been provided with much of what they need.

Donations of furniture are no longer needed. Certain items may still be needed to donate please call the church office at 717-791-0860 or email us at goodnewsfmc@aol.com.

Due to an accidental electrical “short,” a house fire on Market Street in Mechanicsburg destroyed the homes of three local families.  As reported by various news outlets Good News Church has become a local coordinating body charged with collecting donations of monetary gifts as well as household and personal items for the six adults and five children who were displaced by the fire.

For more information on how to help please call the church office at 717-791-0860 or email us at goodnewsfmc@aol.com.

Northside Elementary Coat Drive

September 27, 2009

We have learned that the Northside Elementary School currently utilizes an organization that provides Northside families with their  basic needs like furniture, school supplies and coats to name a few.  However, since it is not possible for the school to access these resources immediately when a child comes to school without a coat, there is a need for warm coats to be used at recess.  To fill this gap, we will be providing coats for use during recess and to be sent home as needed.  Please bring in coats sized for first graders through adults.  All items should be clean in good condition.

Response to Haiti Tragedy

January 12, 2009

We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of life and traumatic injuries experienced by thousands of Haitians in last week’s earthquake. The Free Methodist Church has had very extensive ministry in Haiti for years. There are 15,000 Haitian Free Methodists in this tiny nation. Our network of churches has “boots on the ground” in Haiti. We are mobilizing relief efforts. To learn about and to give to the disaster relief work of the Free Methodist Church in Haiti, go to the link www.helphaitiheal.org. Also, be aware, that our DR Missions Ministries leaders have already begun to investigate the possibility of sending a work team to Haiti next summer.
